Marksbury Avenue Open Gardens

Marksbury Avenue Open Gardens

Origanised by the National Garden Scheme, five gardens opening for you to enjoy, all within a two minute walk – Numbers 26, 34, 60, 61 & 62

Although of similar size, these five neighbouring gardens are all very different. At No. 26 you will find many NZ natives and fruit trees inc loquat, mulberry and feijoa, alongside a delicate chamomile lawn. No. 34 is a cottage style garden with an emphasis on roses: abundantly cascading over fences, in standard form in beds and rambling amongst other plants. An ‘old sink pond’ gives shelter to wildlife. No. 60 is a typical town garden where visitors can enjoy a fine display of patio roses, flowering shrubs and climbers, inc over 20 varieties of clematis around a curved lawn. Next door is a family garden, created from scratch in 2018. Opposite is a traditional English garden with a touch of wilderness comprising different rooms containing a variety of plants inc hostas and geums. There is a pond with newts while a Parrotia persica provides dappled shade for alliums and ferns.

Adult: £7.00
Child: Admission by donation

The Barn serving teas for the Marksbury Avenue Open Gardens on the 12th June (2.30pm – 5.30pm) – we’d love people to come along and we’re also looking for cake donations and garden-themed raffle prizes.

Junior Church news

Junior Church news

Hi everyone,
A reminder of  upcoming Junior Church dates

  • 29th May – no Junior Church (half term)
  • 5th June –  no Junior Church (all age worship and jubilee weekend)
  • 12th June – Junior Church session going ahead
  • 19th June – Junior Church session going ahead
  • 26th June – no Junior Church (baptism)

Can you run a session? We’re looking for volunteers to run JC on the following dates:

  • 10th July
  • 17th July

We rely on volunteers to make JC what it is and are keen for anyone to give it a go. You’re not on your own – we support volunteers with ideas and can co-create sessions :).

By the way, you don’t need a child in the group to run a session, in fact Mike will be running the JC session on the 12th (thank you Mike!).

Our focus for the next few months will continue to be Eco Church (where possible we’ll run the session in our beautiful garden) and getting ready for the jubilee celebrations. Can’t wait!

Jubilee celebration – 5th June

Jubilee celebration – 5th June

The bunting will be out as we celebrate the Jubilee on the morning of the 5th June with a special Jubilee anthem composed by Alban and sung by the choir.

Also, there will be cupcakes on hand to decorate with Jubilee paraphernalia at the back of the church at the end of the service.

Updated Covid Guidance

New Government rules regarding Covid-19 and the Omicron variant mean that it is now a legal requirement to wear a mask in most indoor venues including places of worship for everybody aged 11 or over unless they are exempt. When attending worship at The Barn, please continue to wear a mask when you are not seated (including coming up for Communion). When you are seated, you may remove your mask for singing if you wish or if you feel uncomfortable during the service.

Please note: until further notice, coffee will not take place after church.  We hope very much for this to resume soon.
